America's oldest and perhaps most famous annual marathon was initially inspired by the Olympics and got its start back in 1897 when Boston Athletic Association member John Graham got the inspiration to organize it.  In 1924 the distance was changed to conform to that of the Olympic marathon distance of 24.8 miles.  And, when the distance was changed in the London Olympics to 26 miles and 385 yards - the distance between Windsor Castle and the Royal Box at the London Olympic Stadium,  the BAA Boston Marathon course conformed to the new distance.  Over the years womens',  physically challenged, and Kids races have been added along with the BAA Half Marathon.  Several winners of the Boston Marathon have also gone on to secure Olympic Medals.
