The Boston Common is one of the oldest parks in the United States.  Nearly 50 acres in size, it is a system of connected parks that wind through many of the city's neighborhoods.  In it's history "the Common" has been used for many things - public hangings, cattle grazing, and as a camping space for the British during colonial times.   Today it is known for its walking paths and open green spaces where you can cool yourself by a fountain on hot steamy days. 

The Public Garden portion of the park system is a visual delight famous for its swan boats, lovely bridge views and variety of flora.  The entrance to the Boston Public Garden is in the middle of Charles Street, across from the Boston Common.

The Boston Common is the starting point of the Freedom Trail.  It is bound by Tremont, Beacon, Charles and Bolyston Streets
